🧲 Ch 04 Exploring Magnets
Mind map · the whole chapter on one page

How it all fits together

One idea runs through the chapter: a magnet has two poles, and everything else follows from them — where it attracts most, which way it points, what it pulls or pushes, and how we use it to find our way.

How the ideas connect

Links worth saying aloud — this is what turns facts into understanding.

1 · Poles explain the filings

Attraction is strongest at the poles — that is why iron filings pile up at the ends and why the middle of a bar magnet picks up so little.

2 · Earth's magnet explains the compass

A compass needle is a tiny magnet. It swings north–south because the Earth is a giant magnet pulling on its poles.

3 · Repulsion separates magnets from iron

Both a magnet and an iron bar get attracted by a magnet — only a magnet can be repelled. That is why repulsion is the test.

4 · Passing through materials makes the games work

The maze, the clip in water and the compass with wood in front all work because magnetism acts through non-magnetic materials.
